    What you’ll see

Buzludzha – the peak of the Balkan Mountains

Buzludzha Peak is the tallest of the nearby Balkan Mountains. Rising to 1441 meters, its height is extended by the so-called Monument House of the Bulgarian Communist Party – usually shortened to “the Buzludzha Monument.”

This massive structure is unique – an incredible example of futurist architecture.

    Shipka National Park-Museum

The Shipka National Park commemorates the Russian-Turkish Liberation War of the 1870s which ended Turkish rule in the Balkans.

This huge open-air museum memorializes the heroism of the soldiers who fought for Bulgarian independence and includes Shipka Pass, Shipka Memorial Church of the Nativity and the Freedom Monument.

You’ll see trenches, cannons, bunkers and other preserved items and memorials as you visit all of the most important parts of the site.

The Tombs of the Thracian Kings

In 2004, archaeologists in Shipka discovered a tomb of one of the Thracian kings. The tomb contained a large amount of gold and ancient masks. This discovery gave the village worldwide fame in some circles.
Today, you can go and visit this one-of-a-kind archaeological site, which dates to the 4th century BC.

    The Valley of Roses

The Valley of Roses remained an important part of the agricultural landscape of the Balkans even during the years of Ottoman rule.

Even today, the roses grown here are used to produce sweets and rose oils. The fragrant extracts are the main ingredient in some of the most famous perfumes and cosmetics in the world.

The region’s climate allows for the continuous growing of roses all year round – the winters are soft and the sun shines during the entirety of the day. It’s no surprise then that the Valley of Roses produces some of the most beautiful, oil-giving flowers.

One gram of oil requires more than 1300 buds to be picked. So the rose industry remains a traditional yet vital part of the local region.
