Boyana Church
When you’re walking the streets of Sofa, the frescoes of the Boyana Church are hard to ignore.
Located in the foothills of the beautiful Vitosha Mountain, you can go trekking here or ride on ski lifts to see the view from higher up.
Saint Sophia Church
There are many “Saint Sophia” or “Hagia Sophia” churches in the world, but Sofia’s is one of the most historically important.
First built in the 4th century, this church was responsible for giving the city its name back in the 14th century. This was before being converted into mosque, destroyed by an earthquake and then renovated!

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
This magnificent structure is in the center of Sofia located near to some of the oldest churches – Saint Sophia, of course and the rotunda of Saint George – as well as the parliament building, archaeological museum and National Art Gallery.
