How to get to Borovets from Sofia

Borovets lies at an altitude of 1,300 metres, in the northern part of the Rila mountain. The highest point on the resort’s territory is at an altitude of 2,560 metres. Borovets offers excellent conditions both for winter and for summer recreation for tourists and for sports enthusiasts.

The winter period in Borovets is long, mild, and abounds in large amounts of snow. In the higher parts of the resort the snow cover can be in excess of 2 metres.

Sofia – Borovets: how to travel?

The Borovets resort lies 70 km away from Sofia and 120 km away from Plovdiv. The nearest town is Samokov. The road to the resort is maintained in good conditions throughout the year.

Sofia – Borovets via bus

You can reach Borovets from Sofia by bus by taking it from the Yug station (in Bulgarian: Avtogara Yug). The station is in the Iztok area, under the bridge, on Dragan Tsankov Blvd, 300 metres away from the Joliot-Curie underground station.

Buses leave every 30 minutes, from 7 am until 20 o’clock. The distance from Sofia to Samokov is about 70 km. The trip takes about one hour. The bus fare in one direction is 6 BGN.

Then, from the Samokov bus station (19 Turgovska Street) minibuses leave for the Borovets resort every 30 minutes (from 8 am until 18 o’clock). The last stop is in front of the Samokov hotel. In the reverse direction minibuses leave from the Ela hotel (from 8:30 until 18:30). The bus fare in one direction is 1.30 BGN.

The other bus lines you can take are: Dupnitsa – Samokov (40 km), Plovdiv – Samokov (115 km), Sandanski – Samokov, Kostenets – Samokov.

From Sofia to Borovets via car

If you are travelling from Sofia to Borovets via car, you will follow the following route: Sofia – Gorublyane – Pancharevo – Samokov – Borovets.

The road from Sofia to Borovets is maintained in sufficiently good condition throughout the year. The only thing you need to do is pack your items and leave all problems behind.

The time the trip by car along the Sofia – Borovets route takes is around one hour, depending on the weather and the traffic. From the ring road you should turn in the direction of Pancharevo – Kokalyane – Pasarel – Samokov – Borovets.

In Borovets, there is sufficient parking space, mostly paid for. The largest and paid parking space is at the entry into the resort. The Rila and Samokov hotels offer parking spaces, but you can find where to park in front of small hotels as well.

You must rent a car well in advance, just place your order and you will get the car at the appointed time and in a place convenient for you.
