About Veliko Tarnovo
Veliko Tarnovo is a town in northern Bulgaria, situated along the river Yantra.
Veliko Turnovo is one of the oldest cities in the country, with its history dating back more than five millennia, as witnessed by archaeological excavations.
The most important monument of culture in Veliko Tarnovo is the medieval fortress Tsarevets, situated on the same peak, surrounded by three sides of the river Yantra.
Near Tsarevets is another historic hill – Trapezitsa. His historical wealth is great and not yet fully revealed. Archaeological excavations on the hill continue, and new interesting discoveries are coming.
Apart from its historic hills, Veliko Turnovo is also known for its many Orthodox temples.
